Toys? Are you serious?

Yes, we’re serious. You’re never too old to play with toys or collect toys. If you think you're not too old to have toys, visit our online shop and see what we have in store.

Of course, the game’s changed a little. We don’t stock regular toys. We do the specialist designer collectors’ kind and the aim of the game is to chase down the ones you want or need to complete a series.

Our collectors’ toys are specially designed pieces of art released as part of a series, usually in limited quantities ranging from anything between 10 and … well … lots.

It stands to reason that the more there are in circulation, the less will be their value. This also means that if you pick up a rare toy from a very limited series, it can be worth quite a bit.

What’s the big idea?

Some of these collectors’ toys are pretty rare. Sometimes as few as only 10 are released worldwide, which makes them pretty sought after, and worth loads.

Each series also usually contains at least 2 mystery pieces. It’s a thing called ‘blind packaging’: you purchase the designer toy without knowing what’s in the box. If you’ve got a duplicate, swap it out for one you don’t have, and if you’re lucky, you might just have a rare piece on your hands.

It’s also pretty popular to collect toys designed by a particular designer.

A few of the many well known toy designers are: Frank Kozik, Gary Baseman, Joe Ledbetter, Kronk (South Africa – our local hero!), Huck Gee, David Hovarth, Jeremyville, Julia West, Tara McPherson and Jon Burgerman. These are but a few!

What do these toys look like?

The designer toys range in size from 1 to 20 inches, and sometimes bigger - but these pieces are extremely rare. The most popular toy sizes are between 3 and 8 inches.

Designer toys are toys made from different materials, including vinyl, plastic, wood, paper and plush, and are uniquely designed by artists, graphic designers and animation artists.

We have many varying toy manufacturers; Kidrobot, Toy2r, Strangeco, Play Imaginative, Mimico, Muttpop, Bearbrick, Jamungo - and that's just the beginning.
